Happy Veterans Day!!
Today is the one day each year that truly makes me pause. Veterans Day always takes me back, to the places I’ve been, the countries and cities I’ve seen, the incredible people I’ve met, and the ones I’ve lost along the way.
As an immigrant and a veteran, this day means more than words can say. My time in the service feels like a lifetime ago, almost like another life entirely, yet it continues to shape who I am today. It changed how I see the world, what I value, and how I love and show up for others.
There are things only we, as veterans, truly understand. You go to war, but the war never really leaves you. My only advice to everyone, whether you’re still in or long out, is this: take care of your mental health. Please make it a priority, because sooner or later it will catch up to you. Take care of yourself. You matter.
And if you’ve never served, take a moment today to reach out to a veteran. Invite them for a meal, a coffee, or just check in. Sometimes that simple act can mean everything.

Acknowledging this, it’s vital for both veterans and civilians to prioritize mental health care. Veterans are encouraged to access counseling, peer support groups, and veteran-focused health services to address these challenges. Equally important is for friends, family, and communities to offer understanding and support, helping to reduce feelings of isolation. For those who have never served, reaching out with empathy and simple acts of kindness can make a significant difference. Inviting a veteran for coffee, listening to their stories, or just expressing appreciation can help bridge the civilian-military divide and honor their sacrifices. Additionally, it’s worth recognizing the diversity of veterans’ experiences. Immigrant veterans, for instance, bring unique perspectives, having served in the U.S. military while navigating their own journeys. Their reflections show how military service can profoundly impact identity and values. This Veterans Day, beyond the flags and tributes, let us commit to understanding and supporting veterans in meaningful ways. From mental health awareness to genuine connection, we can all play a role in honoring those who have given so much for our freedoms. U.S. Air Force veterans and all service members, past and present, deserve our gratitude and ongoing support — an echo of the brotherhood and sisterhood forged in service that lasts a lifetime.
