Going through my pens and markers

I figured I’d go through them since I’m in the process of moving. I didn’t get rid of many but I found some of my favorite ones I thought I lost!

... Read moreYou know that feeling when you're moving, and suddenly you realize just how many pens and markers you've accumulated? That was precisely my situation, staring down a truly cluttered pile of writing instruments. It's not just a few; we're talking about a vibrant assortment of everything from trusty ballpoint and rollerball pens to my beloved gel pens, a rainbow of permanent markers, and every highlighter shade imaginable. My desk usually looks like a stationery explosion, and trying to pack it all felt like a monumental task! So, I decided to tackle the beast head-on – a full-blown pen and marker declutter. My initial thought was, 'I'll just toss the dried-up ones.' But as I started, it became so much more. I found myself setting up a little 'testing station' with a spiral notebook, swatching each marker and pen. You wouldn't believe how many 'non-functional' ones I thought I had, only to find they just needed a little scribble to get going again! Others, though, truly had very little ink left – those went straight into the 'recycle/dispose' pile. It was a bit heartbreaking to say goodbye to some, especially the ones that had been my go-to for years. The real joy, though, was rediscovering so many old favorites! I had completely forgotten about that special set of metallic gel pens I adored, or those specific permanent markers that write like a dream. They were buried deep within the 'pile of markers,' hidden in various cases and cups. It was like a treasure hunt! Now, instead of a chaotic mess on my cluttered surface, I'm thinking about how to better organize them in my new place. Maybe clear cases for my gel pens, a dedicated drawer for highlighters, and a practical holder for my everyday pens. For anyone else facing a similar stationery mountain, here’s my mini-guide: First, gather everything into one big pile. Seriously, seeing the sheer volume helps motivate you! Then, test every single pen and marker. Keep a scrap piece of paper handy for those test swatches. Be ruthless with anything that's genuinely dry or uncomfortable to hold. Think about what you actually use. Do you need five black permanent markers if you only ever use one? Finally, categorize them – gel pens with gel pens, highlighters together, permanent markers in their own group. Even if it's just a temporary solution in a few small groups, it makes a huge difference. This process not only helped me pack but also reminded me of the fun I have with my writing tools. It’s amazing what you find when you truly go through your stuff!
