BIGGEST lessons learned THE HARD WAY in Marketing

Sometimes... we make oopsies. My first year in Digital Marketing was extremely formative, and some may argue that if you aren't making mistakes, you aren't learning! So here are the top 3 mistakes I learned from that made me better at my job:

1. Sometimes your target audience isn't YOU: As a current 20 something, I know we all would love to market to Gen-Z forever, but a hard truth I had to face was that sometimes you have to learn to put the TikTok slang down and put yourself in the perspective of a consumer whose different than you.

2. Sometimes the simplest creatives are the most impactful: We all love the fancy editing, the campaigns with flare and flavor- but sometimes my simplest ad creatives have been the highest performing. Sometimes skipping out on all the animations, dings, and intricate fonts attracts the highest conversions.

3. Just because it doesn;t matter to me, doesn't mean it won't benefit the brand: A part of my weekly tasks is scheduling posts on Amazon... not sure if anyone else knew that Amazon has a social media feed, but they do! And for the longest time, I always wondered "What's the point of me even doing this?" But it actually turns out that our numbers proved that those posts were vital to brand exposure!

Overall I give my job as a Digital Marketing Assistant a 5/5 Stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have so much creative freedom, and it’s a great balance of numbers and content creation. Along with that, I’ve loved collaborating with brands and influencers alike!

Has anyone else learned some lessons the hard way?

... Read moreDigital marketing is a constantly evolving field where learning from mistakes is an essential part of growth and success. This article highlights three major lessons learned during a formative first year in digital marketing, offering insights valuable to both beginners and seasoned professionals. First, understanding that your target audience may not mirror your own demographics or preferences is critical. For young marketers, it's tempting to focus solely on their generational peers, such as Gen-Z, and use trendy language or platforms like TikTok without considering if this truly connects with the intended customer base. Successful marketing requires empathy and the ability to see the world from different consumer perspectives, which enhances campaign relevance and engagement. Second, simplicity in advertising creatives often outperforms flashy and complicated designs. While intricate animations, sounds, and stylistic fonts might seem appealing, they can sometimes distract or overwhelm the audience. Clean, straightforward ads that communicate the core message clearly can achieve higher conversion rates, proving that less can be more in digital marketing. Third, marketers should recognize that efforts which may seem insignificant personally can have substantial brand benefits. For example, posting on Amazon’s social media feed might appear trivial, but consistent activity here can significantly increase brand visibility and reach. This demonstrates the importance of trusting data-driven results and embracing all available channels, even those that seem unexpected. Additionally, this hands-on experience offers a balance between creative freedom and analytical rigor, allowing marketers to develop versatile skills. Collaborating with brands and influencers further enriches this journey by providing broader perspectives and opportunities. In summary, embracing failures, understanding diverse audiences, prioritizing simplicity, and leveraging every platform’s potential are key pillars in crafting effective digital marketing strategies. These lessons not only improve campaign performance but also deepen marketers’ professional growth and industry insight.

3 Hard Lessons I Learned in Marketing
You can take a class or read a book, but there are some lessons you only learn the hard way… 1. Even your “best” ideas can flop 😬 Last summer, I poured two weeks into a full rental campaign. I planned videos, designed emails, and updated landing pages. Then? Crickets. No engagement. No rentals.

Some lessons don’t come gently. They come after silence, heartbreak, and choosing yourself when it feels lonely. I didn’t learn these things from books. I learned them by living them… the hard way. If this found you, maybe you’re not behind. Maybe you’re just becoming. 🌱 #healing #
