DIY Bathroom Floor

💚Tired of Peel and stick? Looking to upgrade the floor in a small room? HAVE YOU TRIED Epoxy?!

It really isn't as hard or scary as you'd think!

💚 I spent about 90$ in total to redo my bathroom floor.

And here is How I did it.

*This will only work on a clean, debris free, level floor. (preferably cement for the best adhesion and cure)

You will also need Epoxy Spike Shoes. 1paint brush(dollar tree find). 1 paint mixing stick. 1 Large Bucket. 24 hour cure Epoxy* (I am an epoxy artist so I had most of these already)

❌It is CRITICAL to know that epoxy needs to cure in the ideal temperature range of 71 to 82 degrees!!! You may need to adjust your AC and ventilation accordingly. It also has a very potent vapor so please wear a Filtering Mask!

💖💖I just got done Steam Mopping and admiring my floor and decided to write a little diary entry and share it with all of you. :)

✅1. I spent an entire day ripping up the vinyl sheet flooring that had been original since the house was built in the early 80's. (🤢ick I know right).

✅2. After ripping up the Vinyl, I sanded the floor flat and free of glue. I bleached and dried for about 3 days straight to make sure the surface area was clean and disinfected. I then painted the Floor black (doesn't have to be perfect, use off white for lighter colors)

✅3. I bought 1 gallon of high gloss epoxy, 1 black metallic Mica powder and 1 emerald green metallic Mica powder. I measured almost a gallon of equal parts Resin and Hardener into a bucket and added a teaspoon of black metallic Mica powder. In a separate plastic disposable cup, I mixed up about 6 ounces of epoxy and added at least a nickel size amount of emerald green metallic Mica powder. (You need to thoroughly mix epoxy for at least 6 mins(I listen to 2, 3 minute songs))

❌Adding too much Mica powder results in a flimsy cure thats still bendy.

✅4. After your Epoxy is mixed up, you have about 25 mins to pour and level. I started near the toilet and worked my way towards the door. (Use painters tape to block any areas like trim). Once each section was Poured, I leveled the black and added in a thin line of green zig zag to create the Aurora Effect. (Using side to side swiping motions with a paint brush, spread the green.) I continued this pattern all the way to the door.

✅5. Let it cure for approximately 36 hours before use. Epoxy is Self Leveling. The main objective is to make sure all square footage is covered. It will eventually level.

❌If you find your floor still to be tacky after 36 hours continue to let it cure another 24 hours. If it is still tacky then your mixing ratios are off. PLEASE BE SURE TO DO A PRACTICE CURE before laying down all of your epoxy. it's best to start with a small mold or even pour a small amount of equal parts into a plastic cup and see if it cures in the correct time!

*$40- gallon of 24 hour cure high gloss epoxy* $18 total- Mica Powder* $14- Epoxy Shoes.*$12- 22 gallon bucket.

💚💚If you have more questions or concerns,PLEASE feel free to ask or message :). Thanks for listening

💖💖💖Live Long, Love Long and Prosper my creative friends.

... Read moreIf you're considering a DIY bathroom upgrade, epoxy flooring is an innovative choice offering both durability and aesthetically pleasing results. Epoxy can transform a simple bathroom into a modern space while being cost-effective. To start your project, ensure you have the right materials, including high-quality epoxy resin and mica powders for personalization. To achieve the best results, surface preparation is crucial. Clean and sand your existing floor to allow the epoxy to adhere properly. The curing process is vital, as epoxy needs the right temperature conditions (71-82 degrees) and approximately 36 hours to set completely. After mixing your resin, work quickly to pour and level the epoxy, creating unique designs by adding different colored mica powders. For anyone enthusiastic about home improvement projects, this DIY will be a fulfilling experience that not only improves your home’s value but also enhances its visual appeal. Don't forget to document your progress and share your transformation with the DIY community!
