What time are you holding the wheel?
What time are you holding the wheel? 🚗
Do you remember learning "10: 10" at the driving school?
However, in reality, there is no official standard for the grip position in Japanese driving schools, and it is left to the discretion of the 🤔
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) currently recommends 9: 03 or 8: 04.
"10 o'clock 2 o'clock" is explicitly deprecated in the original ⚠️
The reason is safety during airbag deployment.
After deploying the airbag, the arm is reported to make primary contact in just 13 milliseconds (0.013 seconds) 📚
What you want to be especially conscious of is how to grip "putting your thumb inside the rim."
NHTSA clearly states that the thumb should be along the front of the rim and not held from the inside of the rim 🛞
Japan's JAF also warned that if the backrest is too upright, the arms will become cramped, increasing the risk of injury when deploying ✨
Three things I want to be aware of from today
① How to grip at 9 o'clock 3 o'clock or 8 o'clock 4 o'clock
② Place the thumb along the front of the rim
③ Long distance resets the body with a break
I want you to be a little conscious of your grip from today 👋
If you notice anything, let me know in the comments 💭
