First time trying tretinoin!
I was expecting the cream because that’s what I see everyone using, but mine came in a gel. It smells pretty strongly of alcohol, forms a film, and pills with my other skincare. Still figuring it out, but I’ll keep you posted on whether it helps my acne scars and closed comedones. 🤞
When I first started using tretinoin gel, I didn't anticipate how different it would feel compared to the cream versions I had heard so much about. The strong alcohol scent was a bit overwhelming initially, and the gel formed a noticeable film on my skin that sometimes caused pilling when layered with other skincare products. This experience taught me how important it is to adjust the way I apply my skincare to avoid these common issues. I found that applying the tretinoin gel on clean, dry skin and waiting a few minutes before adding any moisturizer helped reduce the pilling significantly. It’s also been crucial to use gentle, hydrating products alongside tretinoin to soothe potential irritation caused by the alcohol in the gel. Although I experienced mild dryness at first, this is typical with retinoids as the skin adjusts. Regarding acne scars and closed comedones, patience is key. Tretinoin works by increasing skin cell turnover, which can gradually improve texture and fade discoloration, but visible improvements usually take several weeks. Consistency in use and protecting my skin from sun exposure with SPF have been vital parts of my routine. For anyone trying tretinoin gel for the first time, I recommend starting slowly—perhaps every other night—and paying attention to your skin's response. Keeping an eye out for excessive dryness or irritation and consulting a dermatologist if needed ensures a safer and more effective treatment journey. Despite some initial hurdles, I’m hopeful about the gel’s potential to help with stubborn acne scars and closed comedones and will continue to share updates along the way.
