Many arrive with specialized skills in trades such as mechanics, construction, and engineering, which are crucial in building infrastructure like homes and workshops. For example, immigrant workers often fill roles in the automotive repair industry and other technical fields where local skills shortages exist. It is common to see immigrants operating workshops and businesses that not only provide services but also create jobs for South Africans. Their entrepreneurial spirit strengthens local economies and encourages skill transfer. Allowing these workers to be formally documented could enhance access to training programs, enabling them to improve and share their expertise further. Moreover, beyond economics, embracing immigrants fosters cultural exchange and unity among African nations. The idea that if the continent could unite, pooling skills and resources, it would transform development prospects significantly resonates strongly. The call to document immigrants rather than deport them is not only humane but practical – it recognizes their positive role and the potential for mutual growth.
