Mud, Sunshine & Silence: A Lesson in Slowing Down
Yesterday, I spent the day at my off-grid cabin. No phone signal, no traffic noise—just the quiet hum of the world breathing. The kind of silence that isn’t empty but full. Full of wind weaving through the trees, birds calling across the valley, and the occasional plop of my boots sinking into the spring mud.
There’s something about mud that makes you slow down. You can’t rush through it without slipping, so you step carefully, feeling the earth shift beneath you. A reminder that some things—like getting where you’re meant to be—can’t be forced.
The sun was out, warm against my face, melting away the last of winter. I stood there, boots caked in mud, listening. Breathing. Existing. No to-do lists. No expectations. Just the raw, simple joy of being where I was.
It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of everyday life, where productivity is king and stillness feels indulgent. But out there, in the mud and sunshine, I remembered: peace isn’t something you find. It’s something you allow.
So here’s your reminder—step outside. Feel the earth beneath you. Let the sun warm your skin. Breathe in the silence. You don’t have to go off-grid to find it. Sometimes, all it takes is a pause.
