Pumpkin picking
My first pumpkin of the season is ready to be picked! Harvesting a pumpkin is fairly straightforward. First of all make sure your pumpkin is fully Orange. It won’t really ripen off the vine. Second of all make sure the stem is nice and hard. Once the stem is fully formed and the pumpkin is ripe the stem will be solid and firm. Harvest your pumpkin on a sunny day! Now you can use your pumpkin for carving, decorating, or cooking! #pumpkinharvest #pumpkin #gardenpumpkin #greengardengoddess
Picking the perfect pumpkin is all about timing and knowing the signs your pumpkin is ready. From my experience, waiting until the pumpkin displays a deep, solid orange color is key—it simply won’t continue ripening once off the vine. Another important tip is paying attention to the stem: a firm, hardened stem means the pumpkin has matured well and is ideal for harvesting. I also learned that harvesting on a sunny day helps prevent moisture-related issues and keeps your pumpkin in good condition longer. After picking, you can use your pumpkin for fun autumn decorations, carving creative jack-o'-lanterns, or delicious seasonal recipes. If you’re growing your own pumpkins, keep an eye on the vine’s health, too. When the vines start to dry out and die back, that’s usually a sign the pumpkins are ready. Also, gently press the pumpkin skin—a mature pumpkin's skin should be tough enough to resist puncture. Enjoying the process of selecting and harvesting pumpkins adds so much more to the fall experience. Whether you’re a first-time picker or a seasoned gardener, these simple tips can help ensure you bring home a pumpkin that’s perfect for your seasonal traditions.
