Firstly, it's important to understand that there are different levels to giving your digestive system a break, some of which may be excessive, unnecessary, or even dangerous. It is crucial not to fast for more than 48 hours without the guidance of a professional.

That being said, in today's society, we often struggle with overconsumption of food multiple times a day. Just like everything else in the world, our digestive system also gets fatigued from working tirelessly every single day.

If you are starting out or aiming to improve your gut health, I recommend setting the initial goal of an 18-hour fast, where you only eat during a 6-hour window. You can choose to do this once a week or as per your preference. I suggest starting slow and gradually working your way up to the 18/6 fast.

Once you give your digestive system a break, your body will begin to function much more smoothly.
