…From an OBGYN… who has PCOS and endometriosis… who was also misdiagnosed for years 🤗

Thank you to @loriharvey for sharing with us! #PCOS #Endometriosis #OBGYN

... Read moreEndometriosis is a complex and often misunderstood condition that affects millions of women worldwide. It occurs when tissue similar to the lining inside the uterus starts to grow outside the uterus, causing pain, inflammation, and sometimes fertility problems. The signs of endometriosis can sometimes be confused with other conditions such as PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), which is why diagnosis can often be delayed or mistaken. Common signs to watch for include painful menstrual cramps that worsen over time, chronic pelvic pain, pain during or after sex, heavy menstrual bleeding, and sometimes pain with bowel movements or urination. These symptoms may vary from mild to debilitating and often have a significant impact on everyday life and emotional well-being. Misdiagnosis is a frequent challenge, especially because symptoms overlap with other gynecological disorders, and many people are not aware of endometriosis. Women with PCOS might experience irregular periods and hormonal imbalances which can mask or mimic signs of endometriosis, making recognition even more difficult. Early and accurate diagnosis is essential to manage symptoms and improve quality of life. This usually involves a detailed medical history, pelvic exams, imaging tests, and sometimes a laparoscopic surgery for confirmation. Treatment options range from pain management and hormone therapies to surgical interventions depending on severity. Raising awareness about the signs of endometriosis and advocating for comprehensive, patient-centered care can help reduce the years many women suffer from misdiagnosis. Engaging with healthcare professionals who listen and consider all symptoms is crucial for those experiencing overlapping conditions like PCOS and endometriosis. Empower yourself by understanding the signs and seeking appropriate support—your health and comfort matter deeply.
