ADHD struggles are real ✨

Ever wonder why you can spend three hours researching something you're interested in... but five minutes answering an email feels impossible?

That's ADHD.

It isn't about intelligence.

It isn't about effort.

And it definitely isn't about laziness.

ADHD affects the brain's executive functions, making it harder to organize, prioritize, switch tasks, regulate emotions, and get started, even when you genuinely want to.

Understanding what's happening in your brain can replace frustration with self compassion and help you build strategies that actually work for you instead of against you.

This graphic is part of my mission with PATCHIES™ to make psychology easier to understand, reduce stigma, and create a community where neurodivergent minds feel seen, supported, and empowered.

💛 Which one do you struggle with the most?

1️⃣ Overwhelm

2️⃣ Low dopamine

3️⃣ Executive dysfunction

4️⃣ All or nothing thinking

5️⃣ Mental and emotional load

I'd love to hear your experience in the comments.

... Read moreLiving with ADHD often means facing daily challenges that many misunderstand. For instance, the struggle with executive dysfunction can make even simple tasks feel overwhelming. I’ve noticed that breaking down overwhelming tasks into smaller, manageable steps helps me get started without the paralysis of overthinking. Remember, it’s not laziness—it's about how your brain uniquely processes motivation and prioritization. One key insight I gained is related to dopamine levels. ADHD brains often require interest or urgency to spark motivation, which means routine or mundane tasks can be especially difficult. To combat this, setting timers or creating immediate deadlines can simulate that urgency, pushing me to begin tasks I would otherwise avoid. All-or-nothing thinking is another common hurdle. Early on, I was stuck waiting for the perfect moment or the perfect way to complete a task, which often meant nothing got done. Reframing “done is better than perfect” has been a game-changer for productivity and self-esteem. Mental and emotional load weigh heavily on daily functioning, especially when carrying stress and worries that sap energy from focusing on tasks. I found mindfulness and short mental breaks essential to reduce this burden and restore mental clarity. Understanding these ADHD-related experiences has shifted my perspective from frustration toward self-compassion. Embracing tools and strategies tailored to how my brain works has empowered me to navigate challenges more effectively. This community approach, as highlighted by PATCHIES™, helps foster belonging and support among neurodivergent individuals. Sharing struggles and solutions reminds us we’re not alone, and each small victory is worth celebrating.
