Get Ready for Med School Without Studying

It’s totally normal to be nervous leading up to starting medical school! But instead of studying, there are plenty of other things you can do to prepare.

1. Practice cooking and meal prepping! This will help you make sure that you have nutritious meals ready to go when you’re busy.

2. Find exercises that you love! Having go to workout routines, relieves you of the mental load of trying to find exercises to do when you’re in the thick of the semester. If you find exercises that you love, you’ll be more likely to keep a routine!

3. If you can, travel! Medical school will be a very busy time and will be hard for you to find opportunities to travel. Use the summer leading up to explore a new place whether it be in your state, country, or overseas!

4. While in medical school, it might be hard to find time to spend with family and friends. Make sure that you cherish the time that you have in the summer leading up!

... Read morePreparing for medical school can be just as daunting as the courses themselves. While studying is crucial, there are several other strategies you can employ to ensure you're ready for the journey ahead. Firstly, consider focusing on nutrition. Learning to cook healthy meals and meal prepping can save significant time and ensure you maintain your energy levels during demanding school schedules. This proactive approach can alleviate stress as you won't have to worry about meal time. Additionally, establishing a workout routine that you genuinely enjoy can be key to maintaining your physical and mental health. Whether it’s joining a local gym, taking up a sport, or attending fitness classes, incorporating movement into your daily life can help counteract the long hours of study ahead. Don't forget the importance of travel! Use the summer months wisely to explore new destinations. Travel can offer a refreshing break and broaden your perspective, making those busy semesters feel more manageable upon your return. Lastly, cherish the time spent with family and friends before you dive into your studies. This period can be invaluable for strengthening relationships, which will be crucial as you encounter the challenges of medical school. Balancing academic responsibilities with personal life is essential for a well-rounded and fulfilling experience, so take the time now to build those memories.
