New Homes still need to paint?
When you first get the keys to your new BTO or condominium, it’s tempting to move in right away and enjoy the fresh start. But from my own experience and many others I've spoken to, repainting is not only common but often necessary. Even though developers apply paint prior to handover, the quality and colors tend to be very basic—usually plain white or off-white shades that may not reflect your personal taste or lifestyle. One major reason to repaint is that renovation work inevitably damages walls. Electrical wiring, carpentry, and other modifications often create dust, scuffs, or scratches that can dull the fresh developer paint. Repainting after these works restores your walls to a pristine condition and creates a healthy environment that feels truly like home. Another important consideration is paint quality. Developer-applied paint is often standard grade and might not be durable or moisture-resistant enough for long-term use. By repainting, you can choose specialized paints like anti-mold, washable finishes, or odorless options that contribute to a healthier living space and reduce maintenance worries down the road. Color choice is also significant. Custom colors can influence your home's ambiance, from calming neutrals in bedrooms to vibrant accent walls in living areas. Choosing your own palette also helps personalize your space and makes it more inviting for family and guests. In my personal journey, repainting allowed me to fix minor imperfections and select durable, easy-to-clean paint perfect for everyday life. It also gave me the chance to add a splash of personality that made my new place feel warm and welcoming immediately. For new homeowners wondering if painting is worth it, my advice is that repainting is a worthwhile investment for comfort, aesthetics, and long-term care of your new home.
