Lessons learnt from Half Marathon

Every time at the starting point, my mind is always blank, not sure why I sign up for it but secretly hoping that I’ll complete the run within a reasonable timing.

As the run progress and as I see each board displaying the distance, I asked myself why did I sign up and when will I ever complete the run.

When I approach the finishing line and complete, that sense of achievement is something that I cannot describe.

To me, every run reflects our life journey. It’s never an easy one, sometimes it can be tough, challenging and sometimes there are good days that you will be thankful about. Importantly, know your limits, be consistent. When faced with challenges, take it slow, strategize. Resilience is in fact the key to success.

Do you run? What did you learn from it?

... Read moreRunning a half marathon, which covers a distance of approximately 21.27 km—as evidenced by a pace of 6:19 per km completed in 2 hours and 14 minutes—provides more than just physical exercise; it offers profound life lessons. Many runners, like the author, begin their race uncertain of their motivation yet driven by the hope to finish within a reasonable time. This mental blankness at the start is common but soon transforms into mindfulness as each milestone marker prompts self-reflection on perseverance and purpose. During the race, pacing plays a vital role in managing energy and sustaining motivation. Taking the run step-by-step allows runners to strategize when to slow down or push harder, acknowledging their physical limits while striving for progress. This approach mirrors life’s own challenges: by pacing ourselves and striving for steady improvement, we cultivate resilience and can face obstacles with a composed mindset. The emotional reward felt upon crossing the finish line is a unique blend of relief, pride, and accomplishment that cannot easily be articulated. It symbolizes overcoming self-doubt and physical barriers. This moment reinforces the importance of consistency in training and mental preparation. Moreover, the half marathon experience teaches valuable lessons on setting realistic goals, listening to one’s body, and embracing both victories and setbacks. For anyone interested in fitness motivation, viewing running as a metaphor for life underscores that success is less about speed and more about persistence and thoughtful strategy. Whether you are an experienced runner or contemplating your first race, embracing these lessons can improve not only your athletic performance but also your personal growth journey. What lessons have you learned from your runs or challenges? Sharing these reflections can inspire others to push their own boundaries and build resilience through fitness and life alike.

33 years and 3 truths I keep coming back to 🙏🏻 I had it all mapped out in my 20s. The marriage, the house, the kids, the million, the promotion. All with specific ages attached. And I hit none of them on time. For a long time that really broke me. I felt behind. Anxious. Like everyone else
