What’s Your Standard?
I learned this the hard way. Healing didn’t really start for me until my environment changed. I could do all the “right” things…pray, journal, reflect, work on myself -but nothing shifted until I stopped surrounding myself with chaos, misalignment, and people who were comfortable staying stuck.
Your environment will either support who you’re becoming or quietly pull you back into who you used to be. This was one of those moments in the conversation that made me stop and think -and I had a feeling someone else might need to hear it too.

From my own journey, I’ve realized that raising your standards is not just a metaphor but a practical step towards transformation. When my standards went shot up, everything around me started shifting for the better. It’s incredible how much your environment influences your mental and emotional healing. I used to think that practices like praying, journaling, and self-reflection alone would accelerate my growth. While these are important, they weren’t enough on their own. It wasn’t until I physically and emotionally distanced myself from chaotic and unsupportive environments that I began to see real change. The people you surround yourself with can either uplift you or keep you grounded in old, unproductive patterns. Changing your environment doesn’t always mean a drastic move; sometimes it’s about setting boundaries and choosing who to engage with. I found that when I limited exposure to negativity and increased time with motivated, growth-minded individuals, my mindset shifted. I started to embrace new habits and perspectives that aligned with the best version of myself. This process is deeply personal and can be challenging. It requires honest self-assessment and the courage to let go of comfort zones, even if that means some loneliness initially. But the payoff is worth it—your environment becomes a launchpad for your potential instead of a trap. If you’re struggling to progress despite your efforts, consider evaluating your environment. Ask yourself, "Is this space and these people supporting who I want to become?" Raising your standards might mean upgrading your social circles, your physical space, or even your routines. Healing and growth flourish when your surroundings reflect and nurture your goals. Remember, transforming your environment is a powerful act of self-respect and self-love. It’s not just about external change but about creating the right conditions for your internal evolution. Don’t settle for less than you deserve—lift your standards, and watch your life follow suit.
