The last time I got my nails ”professionally” done
They wanted $80 dollars for this atrocity. I asked the manager to redo them, and I’ve never been back to a nail salon since then! This is when I decided to learn to do my nails myself, and after lots of practice I even learned how to do the pink and white ombre! I do my own gelx every 2-3 weeks and couldn’t be happier! 💅🌸 #whatiwantedvswhatigot#whatiaskedforvswhatigot#nailsbeforeandafter#gelxnails#diynails

... Read moreMy $80 nail salon disaster truly was a turning point for me. I mean, who wants to pay that much for nails that look nothing like what you asked for? It was frustrating, to say the least, but it sparked something in me: 'I can do this myself!' And honestly, it's been one of the best decisions I've made.
Learning to do my own nails, especially something as intricate as pink-to-white ombre GelX, wasn't an overnight success, but it was incredibly rewarding. I started by watching countless YouTube tutorials and reading up on different techniques. The key was starting with good quality supplies. You'll need a reliable UV/LED lamp, good quality GelX tips (they come in various shapes like coffin or almond, so pick what you love!), a strong base coat, builder gel, and your chosen gel polish colors. For that perfect pink-to-white ombre, you'll definitely want a soft pink and a crisp white gel polish.
The process itself is quite satisfying once you get the hang of it. First, prep your natural nails – push back cuticles, gently buff, and dehydrate. Then, find the right size GelX tips for each finger. This is crucial for a natural look. Apply a thin layer of primer to your natural nail, then a small bead of builder gel inside the GelX tip where it will meet your natural nail. Press the tip onto your nail, starting from the cuticle, and cure it under the lamp. Make sure there are no air bubbles!
Now for the fun part: the ombre! For a beautiful pink-to-white ombre design, I start with a base coat of my chosen pink. Once cured, I use a small, dense sponge or an ombre brush to dab the white gel polish onto the tip of the nail, blending it upwards into the pink. You might need a few thin layers, curing between each, to get that seamless gradient. Don't be discouraged if it's not perfect the first time; practice truly makes perfect!
Doing my nails at home has not only saved me a significant amount of money but also given me the freedom to experiment with all sorts of nail designs. From pretty spring dip nails vibes to classic black ombre or even fun barbie nail designs, the possibilities are endless. Plus, knowing that I can achieve a clean, professional-looking set of nails, like that perfect coffin-shaped pink-to-white ombre I wanted, right from my living room, is incredibly empowering. So, if you've ever had a salon fail or just want to explore your creative side, I highly recommend diving into the world of DIY nails. It might just be your next favorite hobby!
