Palliative care does not mean "desperate" or "stopped treatment."
It is the care to provide the most comfortable patients with the best quality of life in all stages of the disease.
Speaking up about this story, it's so sad that people who experience health difficulties that doctors say are terminal.
And what kind is it? What is it? The last word is how many years, how many months, how many days?

As nurses, we care holistically.
Not just "symptoms," but care for "feelings, fears and human dignity."
Sometimes the best treatment
Probably not the manipulation of life with tools.
But to make every breath left... meaningful. 🤍

การดูแลแบบประคับประคอง (Palliative Care) เป็นมากกว่าการดูแลทางการแพทย์ทั่วไป เพราะไม่เพียงแต่รักษาอาการป่วยเท่านั้น ยังดูแลความรู้สึกและความกลัวของผู้ป่วยอย่างลึกซึ้ง ในฐานะที่เคยทำงานในแวดวงสุขภาพ พบว่าการประคับประคองช่วยให้ผู้ป่วยและครอบครัวสามารถเผชิญกับช่วงเวลาที่ยากลำบากด้วยความสงบและพร้อมใจมากขึ้น มีหลายครั้งที่ผู้ป่วยไม่ได้ต้องการเพียงแค่การยื้อชีวิตด้วยเครื่องมือแพทย์เท่านั้น แต่ต้องการความเข้าใจและการดูแลที่ทำให้ช่วงชีวิตที่เหลือมีความหมาย เช่น การจัดการอาการเจ็บปวด ลดอาการหายใจลำบาก รวมถึงการสนับสนุนด้านจิตใจ นอกจากนี้ การดูแลแบบประคับประคองยังต้องยอมรับข้อจำกัดต่างๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเรื่องเศรษฐกิจหรือภาวะสังคมที่ผู้ป่วยเผชิญ ความเข้าใจในข้อจำกัดเหล่านี้ช่วยให้ทีมผู้ดูแลสามารถวางแผนการดูแลที่เหมาะสมและสมดุล ทั้งในเรื่องร่างกายและจิตใจ การทำงานร่วมกันระหว่างทีมสุขภาพ ผู้ป่วย และครอบครัว ด้วยความจริงใจและเมตตา เป็นหัวใจสำคัญที่จะทำให้การดูแลแบบประคับประคองประสบผลสำเร็จ และทำให้ช่วงเวลาสุดท้ายของชีวิตมีความสุขและความสงบอย่างแท้จริง คำว่า "Palliative Care คือ การยืดคุณภาพชีวิต ไม่ใช่ยื้อชีวิต" สะท้อนความหมายลึกซึ้งของการดูแล ว่าความสำคัญไม่ได้อยู่ที่ระยะเวลาที่เหลือ แต่คือการใช้เวลานั้นอย่างคุ้มค่าและมีความสุขที่สุดเท่าที่จะเป็นไปได้
