🪶 POI Awareness
Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) occurs when the ovaries stop functioning normally before age 40.
Formerly known as Premature Ovarian Failure, POI can cause:
• Irregular or skipped periods
• Hot flashes and night sweats
• Sleep disturbances and mood changes
• Vaginal dryness
• Reduced fertility
Although it shares some symptoms with menopause, POI is not the same as menopause.
The exact cause is often unknown. Diagnosis typically involves hormone testing, including estradiol and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and may include genetic testing.
The primary treatment for POI is hormone therapy.
✨ An estimated 1 in 100 women are affected.
Awareness creates understanding. Understanding creates support. 🤍
