Perimenopause is basically winter, but inside your body:
❄️Your hormones are on reduced daylight hours
❄️Everything feels slower, heavier, and inexplicably exhausting
❄️You’re cold, then suddenly on fire
❄️You crave comfort, quiet, and to be left alone
❄️Your tolerance for bull 💩 is frozen solid

Perimenopause can often feel like an unpredictable internal winter storm. From my own experience, I’ve noticed how one moment I feel fragile and delicate like a snowflake, and the next, I’m overwhelmed like a blizzard shutting down everything around me. These sudden shifts are due to fluctuating hormone levels affecting body temperature, mood, and energy. One thing I’ve found especially helpful is acknowledging that this period requires more self-compassion and patience. When your hormones are on 'reduced daylight hours,' everything slows down—the mental fog and fatigue can make even simple tasks feel heavy. Accepting this helped me lower expectations and focus on rest without guilt. Another important aspect is managing hot flashes and chills, the on-and-off 'cold then suddenly on fire' feeling. Layering clothes and carrying a fan can provide quick relief. Also, nourishing comfort foods and creating quiet time at home can soothe those moments when you crave solitude and calm. Lastly, setting boundaries has been crucial. My tolerance for nonsense truly freezes solid during perimenopause, which means saying no to anything that drains me mentally or emotionally. This self-care strategy has helped me maintain balance while navigating midlife transitions. If you’re going through perimenopause, remember it’s a phase that invites you to slow down, listen to your body, and embrace the changes with kindness. Sharing stories with others in midlife communities has also been a source of strength and understanding, reminding us that we’re not alone in this internal seasonal shift.
