Happy Mother’s Day, Mama. Thinking of you always.
This time of year is especially hard for me; my beloved Mama passed away two days prior to Mother’s Day in 2020, and we had to inter her amidst all the restrictions of the beginning of the pandemic— social distancing, and only being able to allow so little of our friends and family to be in attendance at her funeral to pay their last respects. I am able to meet this holiday with some degree of peace in my heart now. So much grief and loss and mourning had followed in the years after. I am slowly, gently unpacking everything; the regrets, the bittersweet, the beautiful, beautiful memories, especially from my childhood, that are even dearer to me now. My relationship with my mom was never perfect— what relationship is? But I loved her so much.
