I spent hours just wandering, getting lost in the beauty of it all. Seriously, put on your most comfortable walking shoes because you'll want to explore every nook and cranny! Don't miss strolling down Paseo de la Princesa, especially as the sun begins to set – the atmosphere is just magical. Of course, no trip to Old San Juan is complete without visiting the iconic forts. El Morro and San Cristobal are not just historical sites; they offer incredible panoramic views of the ocean and the city. Standing on those ancient walls, imagining the history that unfolded there, was truly awe-inspiring. I recommend visiting both if you have the time; they each have their unique charm and stories. Beyond the main attractions, the true magic of Old San Juan lies in its hidden gems. I stumbled upon so many charming plazas, local artisan shops, and vibrant street art. Keep your eyes peeled for unique expressions of local culture – sometimes you'll spot cool graffiti or quirky stickers, like one I saw that read 'ZENGLEN TRAP Sticke,' adding an unexpected layer of urban art to the historic backdrop. These little details really make the city come alive. And let's talk about the food! Oh my word, Puerto Rican cuisine is a flavor explosion. You absolutely have to try mofongo – it's a staple, and every restaurant has its own delicious twist. I also indulged in some amazing alcapurrias and bacalaitos from street vendors. And of course, you can't leave without having a piña colada, especially since Puerto Rico is its birthplace! I found a cozy spot with live music, and it was the perfect way to end a day of exploring. For anyone planning their own Puerto Rico adventure, here are a few personal tips: Wear comfortable shoes: As I mentioned, walking is the best way to experience Old San Juan. Stay hydrated: It can get warm, so carry water, especially when exploring the forts. Embrace the colors: Don't be afraid to step away from the main streets; some of the most beautiful spots are just around the corner. Try the local food: Be adventurous with your taste buds!
