Sozai Japanese Restaurant (Izakaya Ramen)
2024/11/1 Edited to

... Read moreStepping into Sozai Japanese Restaurant (Izakaya Ramen) in NYC, I immediately felt a vibrant energy, perfect for a casual yet delicious meal. After hearing buzz about their new grand opening, I knew I had to check out their highly-praised ramen and izakaya offerings. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! The star of the show for me was definitely the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen. The moment it arrived, the aroma of that incredibly rich broth filled the air. Each spoonful was a journey of deep, complex flavors, perfectly balanced with a kick of spice. The pork slices were unbelievably tender, practically melting in my mouth, and the soft-boiled egg was cooked to perfection, adding a creamy richness to every bite. It’s truly a bowl that warms you from the inside out and lives up to all the hype. Beyond the ramen, Sozai's izakaya menu is a treasure trove of delights. I started with the Crab Croquette, which arrived beautifully golden-fried, topped with a luscious creamy orange sauce that added a fantastic tang. Another standout was the Unagi Don, featuring generous portions of perfectly glazed grilled eel over rice, complemented by bright yellow scrambled egg strips – a delightful combination of sweet and savory. For those who love fresh seafood, the Japanese seafood crudo was exquisite; both the hamachi and hotate (scallop) carpaccio were incredibly fresh and delicately flavored, garnished with roe and herbs. If you're feeling adventurous, I highly recommend trying the Grilled Beef Tongue. It was seasoned perfectly with salt and garnished with green onions and a lemon wedge, offering a surprisingly tender and flavorful experience. And you absolutely cannot leave without trying the Crispy Fried Ube Sticks. They resemble sweet potato fries but have that unique ube flavor, served with a fantastic creamy yellow dipping sauce. It’s the perfect crunchy, sweet, and savory side or dessert. Sozai is located conveniently at 19 W 45th St, New York, NY 10036. With prices ranging from $30-$50 per person, it offers incredible value for such high-quality Japanese cuisine in the heart of NYC. Whether you're craving a rich bowl of Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen or looking to explore varied izakaya dishes like their Crab Croquettes or Unagi Don, Sozai offers a fantastic dining experience that I can't wait to revisit. It’s truly one of the best Japanese izakayas in NYC for both its authentic flavors and welcoming atmosphere.
