Gut wrenching 😭🥺😫
🚨🔥 SHE VANISHED IN SCRUBS AND HER CHILD SAW HER STUFFED INTO A TRUNK. 😢🚗
📍 Wagener, South Carolina August 20, 2022
🕯️ Krystal Anderson, a devoted 30-year-old mother of four, had just gotten home from her shift as a home health aide, still wearing her work scrubs, when her life was stolen from her right in front of her children.
💔 According to her sister, Shadira Smothers, Krystal was trying to escape an abusive relationship with 49-year-old Tony Lee Berry. But that Saturday night, Berry caught up with her outside her home in Aiken County.
“The kids heard screaming,” Smothers recalled. “My 9-year-old nephew saw him put her in the trunk. That was the last time they saw her.”
🚨 Berry drove a 2007 Cadillac CTS and investigators now believe Krystal’s body was hidden in that trunk. Eight days later, the Cadillac was found torched and abandoned in a wooded area of Newberry County, nearly 60 miles away. Her body has never been found.
🛑 Authorities allege Berry’s son, Darius, then 23, helped cover up the crime. Investigators say Darius helped his father burn the car, and was later charged with accessory after the fact for arson.
💬 Smothers initially couldn’t believe Darius was involved.
“My heart wanted to believe Darius just got caught up in something his father did,” she told reporters. “But I was misled the entire time.”
🔍 Evidence against Berry is damning:
• Cell phone data placed Berry at the burn site
• He purchased a gas-powered auger, shovel, plastic coveralls
• He made internet searches like: “How to Commit a Murder and Get Away With It”
• Police found his trailer had demonic candles with Krystal’s name, a chair in the bathtub, and rope
😤 Smothers says the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office didn’t take Krystal’s disappearance seriously at first, suggesting she was out partying, despite being in uniform. So Shadira started her own investigation, eventually confronting Berry herself.
🏨 Within a month, Tony Lee Berry was arrested at a hotel in Lexington County.
By December 13, 2022, he was formally charged with murder.
💚 Krystal Anderson is petite 5’1”, with naturally green eyes. She was a mother. A caretaker. A sister. A woman trying to break free from abuse.
