What’s going on????? 😭
Hey fellow Fizzie fanatics! If you've landed here, chances are you're tearing your hair out over the infamous 'Can't Commit' glitch in Sunset Overdrive, just like I was! Seriously, it's one of the most frustrating things when you're deep into a mission, having a blast, and then BAM – you're stuck, unable to progress, and it feels like everything just 'backfired a little,' as one of the players in the game once said in a moment of despair. I know that feeling all too well. I hit this wall hard during a pivotal cutscene, ironically, right when I thought I was about to complete an objective. The screen just froze, and even though the audio was still going, my character wouldn't respond. It was like the game just couldn't make up its mind on what to do next, leaving me in limbo. It reminded me of those mission failures where 'Trooper #3' yells, 'You scared them all away! They're NEVER coming back after that!' – except here, it felt like *I* was the one being scared away from finishing the game! So, what exactly is this 'Can't Commit' issue? From what I gathered and experienced, it often manifests as the game failing to register a completed objective, an interaction, or even just transitioning properly after a dialogue or cutscene. It's like the game loses its train of thought. This can be super annoying, especially when you've just spent ages clearing out a horde of OD! Here’s my personal troubleshooting guide that finally got me unstuck and back to grinding rails and popping OD: The Classic Restart: This is always step one for any game glitch. Fully quit Sunset Overdrive (don't just suspend it) and relaunch. Sometimes, a fresh boot is all it needs to clear up temporary memory issues. Load a Previous Save: If restarting doesn’t work, try loading your most recent auto-save or, even better, a manual save from before you encountered the glitch. I learned the hard way to make manual saves often, especially before starting major missions! This often fixes it because it bypasses the corrupted state. Check for Updates: Ensure your game is fully updated. Developers often release patches to fix known bugs. A quick check for system and game updates can sometimes resolve underlying issues. Clear Console Cache: For Xbox users, clearing your console's cache can sometimes help. This involves holding the power button for 10 seconds until it fully shuts down, then unplugging it for 30 seconds. It clears temporary data that might be causing conflicts. Revisit the Objective Area: Sometimes, simply leaving the area where the glitch occurred and then returning can re-trigger the event or objective. Try fast-traveling to another point and then heading back. Try a Different Approach (If Applicable): If it’s an interaction bug, like talking to an NPC or picking up an item, try walking away and approaching from a different angle, or even trying a different weapon/ability before attempting the interaction again. After trying these steps, I was finally able to get past the cutscene that was holding me hostage. It was such a relief to hear the player character quip, 'Sure thing, it was fun,' after what felt like an eternity of being stuck! Don't let this annoying 'Can't Commit' bug stop you from enjoying the awesomeness that is Sunset Overdrive. Keep these tips in mind, and you'll be back to saving (or destroying!) Sunset City in no time! Happy gaming, Awesomenauts!
