Love From Wholeness
Someone asked me,
“Why would you still choose him when he’s at a low point and can’t pour into the relationship?”
Fair question.
Because loving someone at their lowest should never mean abandoning yourself at yours.
I am not choosing him out of desperation.
I am not choosing him because I think I can fix him.
I am choosing him because I understand that seasons are not identities.
A low point is a circumstance, not a character flaw.
But this only works if you are strong within yourself.
If you are depending on them to fill you while they are empty, both of you will struggle.
If you are grounded, you can stay steady while they rebuild.
Love is not always equal in every moment.
Sometimes one person carries more for a period of time.
But over the long run, it has to find balance.
I am choosing him not because he can give me everything right now, but because I see who he is beyond this season.
At the same time, I am choosing myself.
If staying starts to cost my peace, my growth, or my self respect, then that is when love stops being healthy.
Loving someone at their low can be powerful.
Losing yourself while doing it is not.
So maybe the better question is not “Why choose him?”
Maybe the better question is “Can you choose him without abandoning yourself?”
If the answer is yes,
then it is not weakness.
It is strength with boundaries.
