A recent secondary share sale has valued OpenAI at $500 billion, making it—at least for now—the most valuable privately held company in the world. That puts it ahead of SpaceX, ByteDance, and every other private giant.

They did this without going public. Employees sold ~$6.6 billion in shares at that valuation.
