Okay so I just HAD to try Winter Wonderland for myself because everybody had such a difference in opinion on what it tastes like. 😂😂 It made me extra curious...so I went ahead and grabbed it from Walmart.
Oddly, I know I didn't really care for the Winter Edition of Red Bull this year, but this one...I kinda like it? It has like this strong cranberry tartness yet cotton candy ish sweetness to balance it out. It tastes much better to me a little warm too. 😳
Idk you guys ..may have to just buy it to try it out for yourself. If you like cranberry, I think this is up your alley.
⭐️Overall rating: 6/10: It's worth a try if you like cranberry. I didn't really taste as much coconut as a lot of people claimed.
... Read moreOkay, so after my initial taste test of the Alani Nu Winter Wonderland, I've had a few more cans (for science, of course! 😉) and I wanted to dive a bit deeper into what makes this flavor so divisive, and whether it truly deserves a spot in your fridge this winter.
First, let's talk more about that cranberry tartness. It’s not like a fresh, super-sour cranberry juice. It leans more towards a sweetened cranberry cocktail, but with a noticeable tangy kick. It's definitely the dominant flavor, especially on the first sip. If you're a fan of cranberry-flavored sparkling waters or even some fruit-forward seltzers, you'll probably appreciate this aspect.
Then there’s the cotton candy sweetness. This is where it gets interesting! It's not an overpowering, sickly sweet cotton candy like you might find in some desserts. Instead, it's a subtle undertone that smooths out the cranberry's tart edge. It's what gives the drink that "winter wonderland" vibe, evoking a slightly magical, playful feeling. I think this balance is key to why I ended up liking it more than I expected. It prevents the cranberry from being too one-note or too tart.
Many people, myself included, were curious about a coconut flavor because some reviews mentioned it. Honestly, I still don't pick up much, if any, coconut. If it's there, it's incredibly faint, perhaps just a creamy background note that contributes to the overall smoothness rather than a distinct flavor. So, if you're not a coconut fan, don't let that deter you from trying this!
One surprising discovery I made is how much the temperature affects the taste. When it's ice-cold, the tartness is more pronounced and refreshing. But, as I mentioned in my initial review, letting it come to just a slightly cooler-than-room-temperature state (what I meant by 'a little warm') really allows the cotton candy sweetness to bloom and mellow out the cranberry. It becomes a much softer, more harmonious flavor profile. So, don't be afraid to experiment with how cold you drink it!
Visually, the can design itself is a whole vibe! I love the festive illustrations of the narwhal and flamingo – they really capture that whimsical "Winter Wonderland" theme. It definitely stands out on the shelf, which was part of what drew me in at Walmart.
Who is this flavor for? If you enjoy fruit-forward energy drinks, especially those with a berry or cranberry base, and you don't mind a touch of sweetness to balance tartness, this is definitely worth picking up. It's a fun departure from typical citrus or tropical energy drink flavors. If you prefer super sweet or very artificial-tasting drinks, this might be a pleasant surprise, or it might not be quite sweet enough for you.
Where to find it and for how much? I snagged mine at Walmart, and it seems to be pretty widely available there during the holiday season. Prices usually hover around $2.00-$2.50 per can, which is standard for Alani Nu. Keep an eye out, as seasonal flavors can sometimes disappear quickly!
Overall, while my initial rating was a 6/10, after giving it more thought and trying it a few more times, I'd probably bump it up to a 7/10 for its unique flavor profile and how well it balances the sweet and tart. It's a genuine "buy" for me this winter!
