นโยบายการแยกขยะของกรุงเทพมหานครที่เริ่มเก็บค่าธรรมเนียมใหม่ตั้งแต่เดือนตุลาคมนี้ เป็นจุดเริ่มต้นสำคัญของการเปลี่ยนพฤติกรรมคนเมืองสู่การจัดการขยะอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพมากขึ้น ซึ่งการแยกขยะถือเป็นขั้นตอนแรกที่ง่ายและสำคัญที่สุด โดยขยะที่แยกได้จะถูกแบ่งเป็นสองประเภทหลักคือ ขยะเปียกและขยะแห้ง ซึ่งจะช่วยทำให้ขยะเหลือทิ้งลดลงและสามารถนำไปรีไซเคิลหรือหมักเป็นปุ๋ยได้อย่างถูกวิธี สำหรับคนที่เริ่มแยกขยะครั้งแรก อาจจะกังวลกับวิธีการว่าเริ่มยังไงดี สามารถดาวน์โหลดโปสเตอร์และข้อมูล "How to ทิ้ง" ที่เว็บไซต์ของ กทม. เพื่อศึกษาวิธีแยกขยะให้ถูกต้อง ซึ่งมีรายละเอียดสอนการทิ้งขยะที่เหมาะสมกับขยะแต่ละประเภท มากถึง 144 ประเภท เพื่อความแม่นยำและประสิทธิภาพในการจัดการ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในชุมชนและคอนโดที่มีความหนาแน่นของประชากรสูง การบังคับแยกขยะช่วยลดค่าใช้จ่ายด้านการจัดเก็บขยะได้อย่างมาก เนื่องจากหากไม่แยกจะถูกเก็บค่าธรรมเนียมสูงขึ้นหลายเท่า และยังกระตุ้นให้ผู้พักอาศัยช่วยกันดูแลสิ่งแวดล้อมในพื้นที่ นอกจากนี้การแยกขยะยังส่งผลดีต่อโครงการต่าง ๆ เช่น โรงหมักปุ๋ยที่ใช้เศษอาหารจากขยะเปียกในการดูแลต้นไม้ตามถนนสายสำคัญอย่างถนนพระราม 4 จนทำให้พื้นที่สาธารณะมีความสวยงามและปลอดภัยยิ่งขึ้น อีกทั้งการมีแอพ BKK Waste Pay ยังอำนวยความสะดวกให้ประชาชนสามารถลงทะเบียนและติดตามการแยกขยะในชุมชนของตนเองได้อย่างง่ายดาย โดยมีอาสาสมัครเทคโนโลยีชุมชน (อสท.) ช่วยให้คำแนะนำและลงทะเบียนเพื่อให้ทุกครัวเรือนเข้าถึงเทคโนโลยีนี้ได้ สำหรับนักเรียนในโรงเรียนกรุงเทพมหานครต่างก็กำลังฝึกฝนการแยกขยะตั้งแต่ระยะต้น ทั้งการแยกขวดพลาสติก กล่องนม และเศษอาหาร รวมถึงการนำเศษอาหารไปหมักเป็นปุ๋ยในแปลงผัก ส่งเสริมการเรียนรู้และสร้างจิตสำนึกรักษ์สิ่งแวดล้อมตั้งแต่เด็ก นับเป็นการสร้างวัฒนธรรมการจัดการขยะอย่างยั่งยืนที่จะส่งผลดีต่อเมืองในระยะยาว การร่วมมือกันของทุกฝ่ายตั้งแต่ชุมชน คอนโด โรงเรียน และหน่วยงานรัฐร่วมกันสร้างสังคมที่ใส่ใจสิ่งแวดล้อมอย่างแท้จริง จะส่งผลให้กรุงเทพฯ กลายเป็นเมืองที่สะอาด สวยงาม และน่าอยู่อย่างยั่งยืนในอนาคต
