Three main factors of dust origin, BMA, real data from the dust detective team.

The BMA does not fight dust with water injection, as many people understand, but we have a team of "dust detectives" who use dust DNA testing techniques to determine the cause. The results of scientific experiments are based on three main factors, and according to the data obtained by the dust detectives, lead to 10 dust prevention and management measures that solve the problem at the cause, including caring for the public.

- The car running next to us is the big one.

The first inevitable factor is that diesel and petrol cars that run on the road all day. Every time the engine burns incomplete, they emit microscopic dust (PM2.5) in the air, soot, carbon and volatile organic matter, especially diesel engines, where these dust floats low. If we walk on the roadside or live in buildings, it will be affected, called the inevitable inhalation of smoke dust into the BMA. Therefore, it must be strict with all types of black smoke cars, stimulate the public, change engine oil, Green List Plus project, and set up a pollution control zone (LEZ: Low Emission Zone) to manage as much dust from the largest principal as possible.

The smoke from burning biomass in the provinces around Bangkok, although the cause is far away, has been affected. The burning of rice straw and corn also occurs at a low cost, so farmers need to burn it to manage it. When these fumes enter Bangkok, the dust value is even higher. The BMA has to cooperate with the surrounding provinces to determine the date of burning during the open air and to push for straw processing methods, such as the use of rice straw compression vehicles to reduce future burning.

- When the air "closed," the city was covered in dust.

The rise in dust to orange levels to red levels is not only due to the increase in emissions, but also due to the closed weather that causes dust from these sources to be sequestered and deposited, causing dust to rise rapidly. Measures must be taken to prevent public health. Both incineration notifications through Traffy Fondue, dust-free classrooms in schools and young children's centers, support for Work From Home (WFH), increasing green space, including a seven-day, district-wide dust alert and forecast system, so that everyone can prepare before the dust rises.

In addition to the three main factors, the dust in Bangkok also comes from industrial facilities and construction sites, which also have an impact on air quality. The BMA has to take up space with the Department of Industrial Works to monitor sites more intensely, including the installation of dust canvas, the attachment of air sensors, to forcing all tricycles entering the site to register in the Green List system to better track and control the impact.

Solving dust is not the only injection of water, but the management of dust detectives, so that Bangkok is a city where everyone can breathe a full lung... not just on certain days, but every day.
