"World Cultural and Natural Heritage Day"
November 16 of each year coincides with the "World Cultural and Natural Heritage Day," established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, or UNESCO (UNESCO), proposes to establish a Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, which was adopted by the Conference on November 16, 1972.
Protecting the cultural and natural treasures of the world is a global human mission. Both cultural and natural world heritage are invaluable to cherish and protect as world treasures.
There are eight World Heritage Sites listed in Thailand, with different categories:
❤️ 5 cultural world heritage sites:
1. The historic city of Sukhothai and the city of Sukhothai, listed as a World Heritage Site in 1991.
2. Historic City of Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, listed as a World Heritage Site in 1991.
3. The Ban Chiang Archaeological Site, Udon Thani, was listed as a World Heritage Site in 1992.
4. The ancient city of Srithep, Phetchabun, was listed as a World Heritage Site on September 19, 2023.
5. Phu Phu Phra Thani Historical Park, listed as a World Heritage Site in 2024, is the 8th World Heritage Site and the 5th World Cultural Heritage Site in Thailand.
💚 Three natural world heritage sites:
1. The Great Fields-Huai Shin Wildlife Sanctuary covers three provinces: Utathani, Tak and Kanchanaburi, listed as a World Heritage Site in 1991.
2. The Dong Phra Yai Forest covers six provinces: Nakhon Ratchasima, Prachinburi, Buriram, Mug Pool, Nakhon Nayok and Saraburi, listed as a World Heritage Site in 2005.
3. A group of rapids with natural areas covering three provinces: Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, and Prachyeunuch, listed as a World Heritage Site on July 26, 2021.
Although many places have been listed as World Heritage Sites, awareness of cultural and natural preservation should take place on all places without the need for those places to be listed as World Heritage Sites. Therefore, we must all help preserve both beautiful culture and nature.

วันพิทักษ์มรดกทางวัฒนธรรมและธรรมชาติของโลกซึ่งตรงกับวันที่ 16 พฤศจิกายนของทุกปี เป็นวันที่ UNESCO ตั้งใจจัดขึ้นเพื่อกระตุ้นให้มนุษยชาติได้ตระหนักถึงความสำคัญของการอนุรักษ์สมบัติทางวัฒนธรรมและธรรมชาติบนโลกนี้ การคุ้มครองมรดกโลกนั้นมิใช่เพียงแค่เป็นหน้าที่ของแต่ละประเทศที่มีสถานที่นั้น ๆ เท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นหน้าที่ของประชาคมโลกในการรักษาคุณค่าที่มีร่วมกันเหล่านี้ให้คงอยู่กับคนรุ่นหลัง ในประเทศไทย ปัจจุบันมีมรดกโลกจำนวนทั้งสิ้น 8 แห่ง แบ่งออกเป็นมรดกโลกทางวัฒนธรรม 5 แห่ง และมรดกโลกทางธรรมชาติ 3 แห่ง ซึ่งแต่ละแห่งมีความโดดเด่นทั้งในด้านประวัติศาสตร์ ศิลปะ วัฒนธรรม รวมถึงความงดงามของธรรมชาติ เช่น อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์ภูพระบาทในอุดรธานี ที่เพิ่มขึ้นเป็นมรดกโลกลำดับที่ 8 ล่าสุด หรือเขตรักษาพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าทุ่งใหญ่-ห้วยขาแข้ง ที่มีความสำคัญด้านระบบนิเวศและความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพ การรักษามรดกทางวัฒนธรรมและธรรมชาติไม่ใช่แค่การประกาศขึ้นทะเบียนเท่านั้น แต่ต้องเกิดความตระหนักรู้และการร่วมมือของทุกภาคส่วน รวมถึงประชาชนในท้องถิ่นและนักท่องเที่ยว เพื่อที่จะไม่ทำลายสิ่งที่มีคุณค่าทางประวัติศาสตร์และธรรมชาติ รวมถึงการส่งเสริมการศึกษาความรู้เกี่ยวกับสถานที่เหล่านี้ เพื่อให้คนรุ่นใหม่รักษาความสำคัญของมรดกโลกอย่างยั่งยืน นอกจากสถานที่ที่ได้รับการขึ้นทะเบียนเป็นมรดกโลกแล้ว เราทุกคนยังสามารถร่วมมือกันดูแลรักษาวัฒนธรรม ประเพณี และธรรมชาติของชุมชนตนเองให้คงไว้ซึ่งความงดงามและคุณค่า ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการลดขยะ การอนุรักษ์พันธุ์พืชและสัตว์ท้องถิ่น หรือการรักษาโบราณสถานในท้องถิ่นของเราเอง วันพิทักษ์มรดกทางวัฒนธรรมและธรรมชาติของโลกจึงเป็นโอกาสที่ดีในการย้อนคิดถึงบทบาทของเราทุกคนในการปกป้องโลกและมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมที่ทรงคุณค่านี้ให้ยั่งยืน ไม่ใช่เพียงเพื่อความงามในปัจจุบัน แต่เพื่อให้ลูกหลานได้เรียนรู้และรับรู้ถึงคุณค่าของสมบัติที่มนุษยชาติร่วมกันสร้างสรรค์และอนุรักษ์ไว้ทั้งหมดนี้ตลอดไป
