Becoming a mother has been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. I truly love my baby and I’m enjoying this new journey of motherhood more than I can put into words. 🤍
But if I’m being honest… C-section recovery was rough for me. The physical pain, the emotions, the exhaustion, and learning how to care for a newborn while trying to heal from major surgery was overwhelming at times. It was stressful, and there were moments where I felt like my body and my mind were both trying to catch up.
That season showed me a lot. It showed me how strong I really am. It showed me what resilience looks like. And it also showed me who was truly there for me during one of the most vulnerable times of my life.
Motherhood is beautiful, but it’s also real, raw, and sometimes really hard. I’m still healing, still learning, and still growing in this new role—but I wouldn’t trade being a mom for anything. 💕

One side effect few talk about is the unpredictable nausea or vomiting due to low blood pressure after surgery, which can catch you off guard and add to the physical discomfort. Another unexpected challenge is dealing with pain when laughing, coughing, or sneezing. Applying firm pressure with a pillow against your incision can help ease this sharp, sudden pain and provide support during these moments. Numbness and sensations around the incision site are also common and can last for months. This "pulling" or tingling feeling is part of your body's healing process but can be unsettling if you're not expecting it. Additionally, the use of nitrous oxide as a pain reliever during the procedure, while effective, can leave some feeling extremely disoriented or out of sorts afterwards. Emotionally, the recovery period can be a rollercoaster. The overwhelming exhaustion combined with the pressure to care for a newborn tests your resilience far beyond what many anticipate. It’s normal to feel vulnerable and to experience a wide range of emotions from joy to frustration. Through my own experience, I found creating a solid support system was crucial. Having trusted friends or family to aid with household chores, meal prep, or simply providing emotional support made a difference. Also, prioritizing rest—even if it feels impossible with a newborn—helps your body heal faster. Understanding these aspects before and during recovery can prepare C-section mamas for the road ahead. Remember, healing isn’t linear; it’s okay to have good days and bad days. Sharing these truths openly helps demystify postpartum recovery and supports others on their motherhood journey.
