Here is why I at least try…

First of all, the information is out there. Anyone can learn almost anything on YouTube.

Second—and repeat this one after me—“I am capable.” I have a brain, I have two hands, and I have health insurance in case I end up in the ER lol.

Third—and this is where the shift happened for me—I can still call someone after trying. So if I succeed, I’m incredibly proud of myself. And if I don’t, it’s all good… the handyperson will still take the job.

... Read moreFrom personal experience, beginning to take on DIY home repairs can feel intimidating, especially when you worry about making mistakes or causing more damage. However, one powerful mindset shift I learned is that every task is figureoutable. Thanks to accessible resources like YouTube tutorials, anyone can explore new skills at their own pace. The key is to start small and remind yourself: "I am capable." I often tell myself this to overcome hesitation. Having basic tools and some health insurance as a safety net gives me peace of mind to try without fear. Even if a project doesn’t go perfectly, it’s important to remember you can always ask for professional help afterward, which removes pressure to succeed on your first attempt. Taking a DIY approach not only saves money but also builds confidence and independence as a homeowner. Over time, I’ve found that trying and sometimes failing has taught me more than just repairs—it has strengthened my problem-solving skills and gave me a sense of accomplishment. Most importantly, tackling these small home projects empowers you to maintain a functional, well-cared-for space that feels truly yours. For anyone hesitant about DIY, start with easy fixes and embrace a growth mindset. Follow tutorials, reach out to communities of women and beginners who share their experiences, and celebrate your progress. Remember, every effort adds to your home skills, making future projects less daunting. You might be surprised how empowering it feels to fix something yourself—because, truly, everything is figureoutable.
