Weird Little Things Depression Made Me Do 🫠

It’s the little things depression does that nobody talks about.

For me it’s:

🌀 relying on a cute app just to remind me to do the basics (brush my teeth, shower, journal)

🌀 leaving random half-drunk cups around my room

🌀 and hitting play on the same comfort show for the 100th time

They feel small, but they add up — and when I look back, I realize they were quiet signals my mental health was slipping.

I’m trying not to shame myself for them anymore, but to notice them as reminders to slow down + take care of myself.

💭 What’s one little “weird thing” depression (or anxiety) made you do? I promise you’re not the only one.

✨ Drop yours in the comments let’s see how many of us share the same little habits.

... Read moreDepression often manifests in subtle and unique behaviors that may seem insignificant but actually reveal a deeper struggle with mental health. Many people experience little weird things depression makes them do, such as needing an app to remind them to complete daily self-care routines like brushing teeth, showering, or journaling. These coping mechanisms, though seemingly minor, can be crucial reminders of the difficulty in maintaining basic functions during depressive episodes. Another common habit includes leaving half-drunk cups scattered around the room, which reflects a lack of energy or motivation to finish simple tasks. Similarly, repeatedly playing the same comfort show or movie on loop serves as a way to find safety and familiarity in the midst of emotional turmoil. These behaviors are not signs of laziness or weakness but early indicators that mental wellness is compromised. Recognizing these quiet signals is essential, as they provide opportunities to intervene with self-compassion rather than self-shaming. Approaching these habits with kindness encourages slowing down and nurturing well-being rather than feeling guilt or embarrassment. Acknowledging these little weird things also helps normalize the experience of depression, reminding us that many share similar struggles. Supporting mental health requires creating awareness of these subtle signs and fostering an environment where open discussions about mental health are welcomed. Whether through apps designed to encourage self-care, mindfulness practices, or seeking professional help, understanding and accepting these unusual behaviors is a critical part of the healing process. If you notice these types of habits in yourself or loved ones, consider them as signals to check in on mental health and take small steps toward recovery. Sharing experiences and engaging in supportive communities can also reduce stigma and promote collective healing. Remember, these little behaviors are valid expressions of how depression impacts daily life and deserve attention and care.
