Curved toilet box up!

Just before the long CNY break, the workers finally completed the wet works in the toilets.

We originally were going with the usual rectangular box up for the pipes but as I stared hard at the render and dimensions of the partition, I realised that a straight boxup would mean that it'll not only take up a large volume of the headroom space, but also obstruct the window partially.

Towards the window, as the pipes ran upwards I suggested the idea to my ID of staggering the horizontal portions and connecting them with a curved arc, which not only serves as a design function but also for practical space reasons.

The arc begins nicely from directly where the shower drop begins. Something to consider for your home if you have parts of low hanging pipes that don't run across horizontally all the way.

I initially dreamed of having a false ceiling and cove lights for the toilets. But my ID suggested doing an LED strip under the box up which would also be a modern and neat way to illuminate the space. Stay tuned for the actual lighting!

... Read moreWhen planning a bathroom renovation, maximizing space without sacrificing style is crucial. In my own experience, opting for a curved toilet box-up rather than a traditional rectangular one made a huge difference. The curved design allows the pipes to be staggered vertically and connected with an arc, which not only saves valuable headroom but also keeps the window area clear. This small adjustment can transform a cramped space into a more open, airy environment. Aside from the practical benefits, a curved box-up adds a unique architectural element that can complement your bathroom’s aesthetics. It blends functionality with visual appeal, which is something I hadn’t considered until I saw how well the curve integrated with the rest of the design. Another tip I found useful was the inclusion of LED strip lighting underneath the box-up. Instead of going with a full false ceiling and cove lighting, the LED strips provide modern, subtle illumination that highlights the box-up’s curves and adds warmth to the space without overwhelming it. This lighting method is energy-efficient and easy to maintain, making it ideal for smaller bathrooms. If you’re dealing with pipes that don’t run straight across horizontally but have vertical offsets, consider this curved arc approach. It’s a practical solution that avoids bulky, boxy covers and creates more room for movement and natural light, which is essential for comfort in small toilet areas. Overall, incorporating these ideas—curved box-ups, staggered pipe arrangements, and innovative lighting—can elevate your toilet renovation from functional to stylish and efficient. Keep these considerations in mind to create a bathroom space that's not only practical but also inviting and modern.
