We returned our dining table! And replaced it...

Our dining table was purchased from Soul & Tables at Tan Boon Liat Building, we loved its raw natural look, light oak appearance and tapered edge profile. Initially uncertain of how it'd fit, we got the 160cm length model but realised it felt a little small.

Thankfully, their shop allowed a 30 day return / exchange policy and we decided to go for the 180cm version. Maybe it's not as clear in the photos but the larger version definitely still fit our space well and felt less cramped if we were to host people over.

... Read moreWhen it comes to selecting the right dining table, size really does matter. Our initial choice of the 160cm table from Soul & Tables seemed perfect, mainly because of its gorgeous raw natural look and the light oak finish that blended seamlessly with our Japandi-inspired interior. However, after living with it for a few weeks, we noticed that it felt cramped during meals or when hosting friends. This prompted us to explore their 30-day return and exchange policy, which is such a relief when investing in furniture — it gave us the flexibility to find a better fit for our daily needs. Opting for the 180cm table has completely changed how we use our dining space. The larger surface not only accommodates more people comfortably but also enhances the room's openness. We appreciated that despite the bigger size, the table’s tapered edges and sleek Scandinavian minimalistic design maintain that airy, uncluttered feel integral to both Japandi and wabi-sabi aesthetics. It’s a great example of how thoughtful design doesn’t have to sacrifice practicality. From a practical standpoint, going for a larger dining table is especially beneficial if you enjoy hosting dinners or social gatherings. Not only does it provide more seating, but it also prevents the feeling of being cramped, which can detract from the comfort and ambiance of your dining area. Additionally, the light oak finish adds warmth without overpowering the room—perfect for minimalist and natural decor styles. For anyone debating between sizes, consider the typical number of guests you entertain and measure your dining area carefully. Make sure there’s enough space for chairs to slide in comfortably and for people to move around freely. It’s important to strike that balance between size and space—something we learned firsthand. To sum up, exchanging our dining table for a larger one has been a worthwhile investment in both comfort and aesthetics. If you’re aiming for a Japandi-inspired look with a touch of minimalism and wabi-sabi charm, choosing the right dimension and material for your dining table can truly uplift your home experience.

The biggest transformation after a financial review is not always be, “I bought this plan.” “I started this investment.” Most of the time it sounds like: “I finally understand what I have.” “I know what I need to work on.” “I feel more comfortable taking the next step.” That matters.
