Ijen Volcano 🌋 What I Wish I Knew Before Going
I was honestly quite worried before going to Ijen because I kept hearing that the hike was difficult.
It was my first time hiking, so I was really nervous at first. But after doing it, I realised I could actually do it! 🤍
🎒 What I’d Recommend Bringing
👟 Shoes — I got the NH900 from Decathlon + hiking socks. They worked well for me, especially on the rocky and sandy parts. Just be a little careful with your steps.
🧥 Warm layers — it gets really cold before sunrise.
🔦 Headlamp — you’ll be starting before sunrise, so this is really useful.
😷 Mask / respirator — especially if you’re planning to see the Blue Fire.
🧤 Gloves — helpful for keeping your hands warm.
💧 Water — definitely bring enough.
🍪 Snacks — some biscuits or small snacks are good for a quick energy boost.
🧻 Wet wipes / tissues — always useful after a hike.
💭 My Takeaway
If you’re mainly going for the sunrise, I don’t think you need to worry too much about the hike. Just take your time and make sure you’re properly prepared.
I didn’t go down for the Blue Fire, so I can’t speak from personal experience about that route. But if you’re planning to go, I’d recommend proper hiking shoes with good grip and support, as it can be more challenging.
🌋 I came with a little fear, but left with a lot of memories. 🤍
Sometimes, the things we worry about turn out to be easier than we imagined.
From worrying about the hike to actually making it to the top. ✨
