Other psychologists before Wundt believed that the mind was just a passive "pool of experience."

It selects, organizes and synthesizes experience through a process called Apperception.

And Apperception itself is driven by Will - will.

For example, when you read a book in the middle of a loud voice, you can also focus.

When you are very tired, but you can still get up and do what is intended.

That's Will working. ✨

The idea was taken by Titchener, a disciple of Wundt, to further develop it into Structuralism.

But Titchener cut out the Apperception section, which Wundt himself disagrees with.

การศึกษาแนวคิด Voluntarism ของ Wilhelm Wundt ทำให้ผมเห็นภาพใหม่เกี่ยวกับการทำงานของจิตใจในชีวิตประจำวัน ที่ไม่ใช่แค่รับประสบการณ์แบบ passive แต่มีเจตจำนงหรือพลังที่ขับเคลื่อนช่วยให้เราโฟกัสกับสิ่งใดสิ่งหนึ่งได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ ในชีวิตจริง ผมมักพบว่าเมื่อมีเสียงรบกวนหรือสิ่งรบกวนอื่นๆ รอบตัว การจะตั้งใจทำงานหรืออ่านหนังสือให้ได้ผลดีจำเป็นต้องใช้พลังของเจตจำนงในการจัดระเบียบความคิด เหมือนกับที่ Wundt อธิบายว่า Apperception ซึ่งเป็นกระบวนการเลือกและสังเคราะห์ประสบการณ์ ถูกนำพาโดยเจตจำนงนี้ สิ่งที่ทำให้แนวคิด Voluntarism ยังคงความทันสมัย คือการที่เจตจำนงยังคงสามารถใช้จัดการกับความว้าวุ่นโดยเฉพาะในยุคที่มี Notification แจ้งเตือนทุก 5 นาที การมีเจตจำนงที่แข็งแรงช่วยให้เราควบคุมความสนใจ ไม่ปล่อยให้สิ่งเร้ามากำหนดความคิดหรือพฤติกรรมได้ง่าย ผมเองก็เคยลองฝึกฝนการใช้เจตจำนงผ่านเทคนิคต่างๆ เช่น การตั้งเป้าหมายชัดเจน การฝึกสมาธิ หรือการวางแผนกิจกรรมให้มีโฟกัส ผมพบว่าทุกครั้งที่ผมรู้สึกเหนื่อยหรืออยากเลิกทำสิ่งใด สิ่งที่ผลักดันให้ผมลุกขึ้นทำต่อได้คือเจตจำนงนี่เอง ซึ่งมันเป็นเหมือนการออกคำสั่งให้จิตใจทำงานอย่างมีวินัยและจงใจ ดังนั้น การเข้าใจและตระหนักถึงบทบาทของเจตจำนงในชีวิตประจำวัน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการเรียน การทำงาน หรือการพัฒนาตัวเอง จึงเป็นสิ่งที่มีคุณค่าอย่างมาก ผมอยากชวนให้ทุกคนลองตั้งคำถามกับตัวเองว่าตอนนี้คุณใช้ "เจตจำนง" ของคุณโฟกัสกับอะไร และคุณช่วยเพิ่มพลังเจตจำนงนั้นได้อย่างไรบ้าง เพื่อชีวิตที่มีความหมายและประสิทธิภาพมากขึ้น
