Sensory and mental
🧩, delve into the Wilhelm Wundt edition of "The Mix of the Mind."
Wundt once posed the question that changed the world forever:
"What is our human consciousness really made up of?"
Not only did he guess, but he used an experiment to find that our mind has two basic elements that work together, like the chemical formula of emotion:
🔵 1.Sensations (raw data from the senses)
It's what the body takes straight through the eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin, and Wundt says we have to check it out in four dimensions:
Quality (Quality): What is it? (Red, Treble, Sweet Taste)
Intensity: How strong is it? (Bright, light, sweet)
Duration: Does it last?
Clearness: How focused are we on it?
🟡 2.Feelings (taste of feeling)
Wundt proposed a prominent theory called Tridimensional Theory, seeing human emotion as a 3-axis "slider" that is adjustable back and forth:
Satisfied ↔️ Not satisfied (Pleasure-Displeasure)
Tension ↔️ Relaxation
Stay awake ↔️ calm (Excitement-Depression)
🧠 Heart: "Apperception" (the embellishment of the mind)
What makes Wundt special is that he doesn't see us as just robots that take information away, but he cares about how our minds "unite" these components through a process called Apperception, which relies on our will or intention.
🌟 Try "Introspection" for 30 seconds!
Try putting your phone down for a moment and notice yourself:
What does your body feel most clearly now? (Sensation)
And in your mind, at what level are the three sliders (satisfied / tense / alert)?
That's all, you tried wearing a psychologist's spirit in Wundt's lab in 1879!
What dimensions are your emotions in now? Let's share them. 👇
