He’s neutered so I don’t think its a marking thing

My dog is about 2 years old and is still struggling with potty training. I got him at 6 months and he had a belly band and was trained to potty on pee pads. We have a dog area with a dog door that he has access to all day but still goes pee and poop in the house.

Today alone I caught him trying to poop in the hallway and he peed on the couch in front of me. Both times I put him outside and told him to go potty outside but this doesn’t seem to work.

Is there anything else I can do? I’m tired of cleaning up pee spots/ poop constantly.

... Read morePotty training a dog can be a challenging process, especially for owners whose pets are obstinately defiant about using the outdoors. It's crucial to understand that neutering a dog may not necessarily eliminate marking behaviors. With patience and the right approach, you can help your dog learn to relieve himself outdoors effectively. Start by establishing a consistent schedule for bathroom breaks, ensuring that you take your dog out frequently—especially after meals and playtime. Use positive reinforcement techniques, rewarding your dog immediately after he goes potty outside to encourage the desired behavior. Additionally, monitor your dog's dietary habits to avoid gastrointestinal disturbances that may lead to indoor accidents. Choose high-quality dog food and maintain regular feeding times to regulate his bowel movements. If your dog has accidents at home, promptly clean the area with enzymatic cleaners designed to remove odors, as lingering scents can encourage repeated offenses in those spots. Consider incorporating crate training into your routine, as many dogs instinctively avoid soiling their sleeping area. A properly sized crate can be a safe haven for your pet when you can't supervise him directly. If issues persist, consult with a veterinarian to rule out any underlying health concerns, as conditions like urinary tract infections can affect behavior. Remember, patience and consistent training are key in successfully transitioning to outdoor potty habits.

I did kennel training for all my dogs and it works well. As soon as you let him out of the kennel he goes potty. If you are home with him all day I recommend getting on a timer and let him out every 2 hours. Mine are also bell trained to ring the bell by the door to let us know they need to go out.
