Why couldn’t I look like that?
I’m not conventionally attractive. Growing up, family and classmates bullied me for how I look. Now, when I see girls my age online, I’m consumed with anger. I never take it out on them. I compliment others because I know how it feels to be put down. But I’ve had to block beautiful influencers and celebrities, seeing them makes me cry, knowing I’ll never measure up. My partner says I’m beautiful, but I think he’s lying. He’s been with me so long, he’s probably just used to my face. And knowing he’s looked at other girls who look nothing like me? It confirms I’ll never be that kind of beautiful to him. I’ll keep faking confidence for others. But I avoid mirrors, and all my photos are heavily filtered. This pain just won’t go away. How does it feel being cute?
