Did I hurt my friend for saying it?
My best friend’s a grad student gearing up for a medical career. Lately, she’s been really struggling, can’t focus on studying, seems totally depressed, just not doing well. Finally, she pushed herself to study and sent me a pic of her notes but my first response was I wouldn’t trust someone who uses ChatGPT to study with my health.
I have tons of chronic issues, and I’ve been misdiagnosed so many times. My doctors barely listen to my symptoms, then google possible diagnoses right in front of me. But if I say I looked something up on Google, they go on these rants about how it’s unreliable. But their Google searches were wrong, they gave me the wrong meds. Told me I had allergies, or just psoriasis, when it’s actually another autoimmune condition.
Did I overstep? It definitely came out harsh, and she’s so vulnerable right now. But is thinking “I don’t want AI in my healthcare” a normal belief… or am I just being arrogant?

I completely understand your worries! As a healthcare student I use AI to help me study multiple times a week. I like to learn the material given to me by instructors and then I will have ChatGPT make a quiz so I know what I am understanding and what I need to review. I also like to have it make me a study schedule every week so I don’t burn out. I don’t use it on actual graded tests or homework. A lot of my professors/instructors actually recommend we use ai to study and even require a few ai extensions to be added on our devices we use.
