Feminism Isn’t the Threat … Control Disguised as Religion Is


From my own observations and experiences, the intersection of religion and politics has increasingly influenced women's rights worldwide. Many women feel the weight of policies and cultural norms justified under religious pretexts, which often restrict their autonomy and freedom. This control leverages scripture in ways that silence dissent and demand compliance, creating an environment where feminism is unfairly vilified as the problem. In communities I have interacted with, this weaponization of faith manifests in limiting access to reproductive health services, restricting educational opportunities, and enforcing traditional gender roles. It’s evident that these actions are less about protecting morals and more about maintaining power structures that benefit a specific ideology. What resonates with me is the call to recognize that feminism champions equality and freedom, which are crucial for societal progress. The threat emerges when religious extremism imposes rigid controls masked as spirituality, undermining women's safety and rights. Engaging in open dialogue, raising awareness, and supporting movements that address this disguised control has empowered me and others around me to resist oppression. It’s essential to differentiate genuine faith, which embraces compassion and justice, from extremist agendas that use religion as a tool for dominance. This understanding fuels my commitment to speak out against such injustices and encourage others to do the same.
