My favorite plant 🌱

I'm so thrilled about my new baby Monstera! Watching her unfurl new leaves and grow is just the best feeling. Since I mentioned wanting to see her grow and propagate, I wanted to share a bit more about how I plan to achieve that lush, full look, and how you can too! Encouraging Growth & Pruning Your Monstera: Many new plant parents wonder how to get their Monstera to really thrive. The secret often lies in strategic pruning! Pruning isn't just about cutting off dead leaves; it actually encourages the plant to put out new growth from dormant nodes, making it bushier and healthier. When I look at my little one, I'm already thinking about where I'll make my first cuts. Why Prune? To encourage new growth, create a fuller plant, manage size, and remove leggy or damaged sections. It can also help develop those beautiful fenestrations! How to Prune: Always use clean, sharp shears to prevent disease. Look for a node (a bump on the stem where a leaf or aerial root grows). You want to cut about an inch below a node, ensuring that the remaining stem has at least one node for new growth to emerge from. Don't be shy – your Monstera is resilient! What to do with the cuttings? Propagation time! Propagating Your Monstera for More Plant Babies: This is the exciting part! Turning one plant into many. I can't wait to have several little Monsteras around the house. Water Propagation: This is my favorite method. Just place your cutting (making sure it has at least one node and a leaf or two) into a jar of clean water. Change the water every few days. You'll start to see roots emerge in a few weeks! Once the roots are a few inches long, it's ready for soil. Soil Propagation: You can also directly plant cuttings into a well-draining potting mix. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, and place it in a warm, humid spot. Rooting hormone can definitely help here. Expanding Your Plant Collection: Other Amazing Plant Finds! Beyond Monsteras, there's a whole world of stunning plants to discover. I've been eyeing some incredible varieties lately, and maybe you'll find your next obsession here. When I'm out on my "PLANT FINDS" missions, these are definitely on my radar! Philodendron Mamei: If you love unique foliage, the Philodendron Mamei is a must-see. Its large, heart-shaped leaves have beautiful silver patterns and a slightly textured, puckered surface. It's relatively easy to care for, preferring bright, indirect light and consistent moisture, making it a stunning addition to any indoor jungle. Variegated Monstera Dragon Tail Plant: Oh, the dream plant! This one, often a variegated Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma, is incredibly sought after for its striking fenestrated leaves with splashes of white or yellow variegation. It grows quickly and has a vining habit, similar to a mini Monstera, but with that extra pop of color. It's a bit of a splurge, but totally worth it for its beauty! Aglaonema Key Lime: For a vibrant splash of color, the Aglaonema 'Key Lime' is fantastic. Its bright green leaves with lighter, almost neon-green variegation can truly brighten up a space. Plus, Aglaonemas are known for being quite forgiving and tolerant of lower light conditions, perfect for those shadier spots in your home. Clematis Destiny: While many of my favorites are houseplants, I also adore outdoor beauties. The Clematis 'Destiny' is a gorgeous climbing vine that produces stunning white flowers with pinkish-red centers. Imagine it gracing a trellis or arch in your garden! It adds such an elegant touch and is a real showstopper, definitely a find for any outdoor plant lover.
