Open more Black hair salons.
I feel like Black American women need to open more salons that serves our community because we understand our hair texture. We need to make it more affordable to it can be common like going to a fast food restaurant lol. this is my personal option from experience. Caribbean/african American women are the best when it comes to hair because we are very creative. but the issue is thier isnt a balance. more of us needs to open more affordable salons for our community that is accessible everywhere in all states like a chain salon. that black peoeple can find work and also the antiblackness will be at a minimum. Less texture discrimination will occur and we can cater to all hair types. Spend money with your own community and keep the black dollars circulating. All beauty services from hair, nails,spas,everything on the table.
The House of BLA and similar Black-owned salons have shown that community-focused hair care businesses not only celebrate culture but also provide essential services tailored to unique hair textures. Expanding the presence of affordable Black hair salons nationwide can help normalize the routine care of natural and textured hair, much like common errands or fast food visits. This accessibility encourages young professionals and entrepreneurs within the African American and Caribbean communities to open salons, fostering economic growth and reducing systemic discrimination within the beauty industry. Moreover, creating chain salons with a strong cultural foundation ensures services cater to all textured hair types, from tightly coiled to wavy. This inclusivity combats texture bias prevalent in general salons and promotes pride in natural hair. Affordable pricing also broadens access, making regular salon visits achievable for more people while creating job opportunities for Black stylists in every state. Building a network of such salons can challenge anti-Blackness by showcasing the art and creativity inherent in Black hair care and encouraging greater representation. As salons become more commonplace and widely accessible, social perceptions about Black hair may shift, fostering acceptance and appreciation. Ultimately, the goal is to blend cultural expertise with affordability and convenience, creating a welcoming space where Black hair care is not just a specialized service but a celebrated norm.
