How does the Infrared Thermometer detect water leaks?!
Infrared Thermometer does not detect water directly, but it does detect water leaks by measuring surface temperature differences caused by water leaks.
The working principles are as follows:
* Leaking water often has a different temperature than ambient materials.
* Underground tap water is often cooler than floors or walls.
* The hot water from the hot water pipe will make the leak area warmer than usual.
* When water seeps into a wall or floor
* Unlike dry areas, wet areas absorb and cool.
* Causing the surface to have a slightly higher or lower temperature around it.
* Infrared thermometer will measure skin temperature.
* If you measure several points and find an abnormal temperature, it may be a position of water leak or moisture accumulation.
Restrictions
Infrared thermometer with a laser firing gun. It measures only 1 point at a time, so it is suitable for checking suspected points. It is not suitable for wide area scanning.
To find water leaking in walls or floors more quickly and accurately, technicians often use thermal cameras because they can visualize the temperature of the entire area, immediately discerning water pipelines and temperature abnormalities.
In conclusion, the infrared thermometer does not "see water," but does see the effect of water that causes surface temperatures to change, so it is used as a tool to identify water leaks in many cases, especially when the temperature difference is large enough to detect.

การใช้อินฟราเรดเทอร์โมมิเตอร์ในการตรวจสอบน้ำรั่วถือเป็นวิธีที่สะดวกและรวดเร็วมากในงานตรวจบ้านหรือซ่อมบำรุงระบบประปา ผมเคยใช้เครื่องมือนี้ตรวจสอบน้ำรั่วใต้พื้นบ้านและสามารถหาจุดที่ผิดปกติได้จากการสังเกตอุณหภูมิที่เปลี่ยนแปลง เช่น พื้นที่บริเวณท่อน้ำที่รั่วจะมีอุณหภูมิที่เย็นกว่าหรือร้อนกว่าพื้นที่รอบข้างอย่างชัดเจน ทำให้การซ่อมบำรุงเป็นไปได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ อย่างไรก็ตาม อินฟราเรดเทอร์โมมิเตอร์แบบปืนยิงเลเซอร์ที่วัดทีละจุดมีข้อจำกัดในการสแกนพื้นที่กว้างๆ ทำให้ต้องเดินตรวจทีละจุด ซึ่งใช้เวลานานและอาจพลาดจุดที่มีปัญหาได้ ในกรณีนี้ผมแนะนำให้ร่วมใช้กับกล้องถ่ายภาพความร้อน (Thermal Camera) ที่สามารถจับภาพอุณหภูมิได้ทั้งบริเวณ ทำให้เห็นแนวท่อน้ำและบริเวณที่ซึ่งความชื้นสะสมอย่างชัดเจนกว่า นอกจากนี้การวัดอุณหภูมิจากอินฟราเรดยังต้องพิจารณาค่า emissivity หรือการแผ่รังสีของพื้นผิว ซึ่งจะส่งผลต่อความแม่นยำของข้อมูลที่ได้ จากประสบการณ์ส่วนตัว การเรียนรู้วิธีอ่านค่าจากอินฟราเรดเทอร์โมมิเตอร์รวมถึงการเปรียบเทียบอุณหภูมิหลายจุดช่วยให้เพิ่มความมั่นใจในการเลือกตำแหน่งที่อาจมีน้ำรั่ว ทั้งนี้การตรวจสอบซ้ำเมื่อเวลาผ่านไปเพื่อดูการเปลี่ยนแปลงก็เป็นสิ่งจำเป็นเพื่อให้แน่ใจว่าปัญหาน้ำรั่วยังคงอยู่หรือได้รับการแก้ไขแล้ว ดังนั้นอินฟราเรดเทอร์โมมิเตอร์จะไม่ใช่เครื่องมือที่ตรวจจับน้ำได้โดยตรง แต่เป็นเครื่องมือที่ช่วยชี้จุดที่มีโอกาสเกิดน้ำรั่วและความชื้นสะสมได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ หากเลือกใช้อย่างถูกต้องและรู้ข้อจำกัด ก็จะช่วยประหยัดเวลาและค่าใช้จ่ายสำหรับการซ่อมแซมบ้านได้อย่างมาก
