It’s also okay not to be okay, res!

2025/1/22 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! Following up on our chat about how it's genuinely okay not to be okay, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into how we can actually practice acknowledging our feelings. It's one thing to know it intellectually, but quite another to truly feel and validate those emotions. For me, it's been a journey of self-discovery, and I've picked up a few strategies that might help you too. First off, the simplest yet most powerful step is simply naming the emotion. We often generalize and say we feel "bad," but there's a world of difference between sadness, frustration, anxiety, or even a quiet resentment. Taking a moment to acknowledge and label what you're truly feeling makes it less abstract and overwhelming. It’s like shining a spotlight on it, making it more manageable and less like a chaotic storm within. Journaling has been a game-changer for me in this process. Just free-writing whatever comes to mind, without judgment or the need for perfect grammar, helps clear my head. Sometimes, seeing my thoughts and feelings on paper helps me understand patterns or triggers I wasn't consciously aware of. It's a safe space to vent, process, and ultimately, accept what’s stirring inside. Another invaluable technique I've integrated into my daily life is mindful breathing. When a strong emotion starts to bubble up, whether it’s anger or deep worry, taking a few deep, slow breaths helps create a little space between me and the feeling. It's not about pushing it away or pretending it doesn't exist, but about observing it without getting completely swept up by it. This brief pause allows me to acknowledge the feeling, to say 'I see you,' before deciding how to respond, rather than reacting impulsively. I've also started incorporating this focus on emotional well-being into my future planning. You know how much I love setting intentions, and for 2025, I’m actually in the process of creating a new Vision Board that focuses not just on external achievements, but significantly on emotional health and resilience. I’m including images and words that represent inner peace, moments of calm, routines for self-care, and affirmations of self-compassion. It's a powerful visual reminder that my feelings are valid and that nurturing my emotional landscape is just as crucial as pursuing career goals or travel dreams. For example, I might have a picture of someone meditating or a serene nature scene to remind me to take those moments for myself when I'm feeling stressed or overwhelmed, which is a direct way of acknowledging that stress and proactively taking care of my well-being. It’s about visualizing a future where I’m not just achieving, but feeling acknowledged and balanced. Finally, finding a supportive community, even online, has been incredibly helpful. Sharing my experiences openly, like we do here on Lemon8, helps me realize I'm truly not alone in my emotional struggles. It reinforces the idea that all feelings, pleasant or unpleasant, are part of the rich tapestry of the human experience, and that acknowledging them is a profound sign of strength, not weakness. So, let’s keep those conversations going, and always remember to extend kindness and understanding to yourself as you bravely navigate your own emotional landscape!

Life is hard. A lot of us are carrying stuff. It’s okay to care for yourself. It’s not a trend. You don’t have to have earned it with the right type of suffering. You don’t have to finish your entire task list first. You can be busy and still do it. And it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Here
