I know a lot of you might be wondering what the actual removal process is like, and what to expect right after, so I wanted to share my fresh experience. First off, the procedure itself was actually pretty quick and relatively painless. My doctor applied a local anesthetic (that tiny prick was probably the most uncomfortable part, honestly!) to numb the area thoroughly. Then, they made a small incision, almost like a tiny slit, exactly where the implant had been residing. I felt absolutely no pain during the actual removal, just a strange sensation of pulling and pressure as they gently teased the rod out. What a relief when they showed it to me – bye-bye, little birth control implant! Immediately after, they cleaned the site and gently pressed on it before applying a small bandage. Just like the picture shows, my upper arm is now wrapped up, signaling a recent procedure. I'm definitely keeping a close watch for any bruising, which my doctor assured me is a very common occurrence after contraceptive implant removal. It's totally normal to have some tenderness or a mild bruise around the removal site for a few days, so I'm not worried. Right now, it just feels a little sore, but nothing that's stopping me from making a peace sign! Now, onto what I'm really curious about, and what many of you might be too: what happens after removing implant? I've heard so many stories and read so much about various implant removal side effects after Nexplanon removal. My body has been on Nexplanon for quite some time, and I'm bracing myself for the adjustment period. Things like changes in my menstrual cycle, potential mood swings, and even weight fluctuations are definitely on my radar. I'm preparing myself for a bit of a hormonal rollercoaster as my body adjusts to being off Nexplanon. Some friends have mentioned experiencing what they call 'Nexplanon crash' symptoms, which can include headaches, fatigue, or even brown nexplanon spotting as hormones rebalance. I'm trying to be prepared for anything and everything. My main hope is that some of the issues I experienced while on Nexplanon, like unpredictable bleeding or heightened anxiety, will finally resolve. This 'never again' sentiment is strong for me, as my personal experience with the implant wasn't always positive. I’m really focusing on listening to my body in the coming weeks and months, and observing how it reacts to being hormone-free. For anyone considering getting off nexplanon, remember that everyone’s experience is deeply personal and unique. It's truly a journey of rediscovering your body's natural rhythm and what works best for you. I’ll be sharing updates as I navigate this post-removal phase, especially about any changes I notice in my energy levels, skin, or cycle. Wish me luck on this new chapter!
