authentic sichuan cuisine in sg

i was invited to head down to this viral lemon8 sichuan restaurant with a friend and here is my honest review about this restaurant! this place is quite famous for their signature double grilled fish with a total of 7 flavours to choose from, so if you are a 烤鱼 lover like me, you should give this place a try!

their restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, so if you are planning to head down, do make a reservation in advance with a request for outdoor seats so that you can enjoy your sichuan food dinner date by the river 🌊🥘 nonetheless, the indoor dining area was pretty well ventilated too.

we got:

౨ৎ one fish two ways 8/10 ($58.80)

as spice lovers, we went with tom yum and hot and spicy as our flavours. the hot and spicy broth was a bit too oily for me and not as spicy as i thought it would be thus it was a miss for me, so if you’re expecting a numbing mala sensation, don’t! the tom yum broth, on the other hand, was rich and hearty with a taste that’s not too overpowering. also, the fish was so incredibly tender and fresh, and it was sweet yet savoury as it was soaked in the goodness of the broth, plus it had no fishy taste or smell at all! this dish really opened up my appetite, and the rich flavours of the fish paired together with bites of white rice is just so yummy.

౨ৎ sambal kang kong 7/10 ($16.00)

sambal kang kong is one of my must-gets whenever i order zichar dishes and the one here was not bad! the kang kong was crunchy and juicy with just the perfect amount of spice, and was also not too salty. overall, a decent dish to order when you’re here, but nothing too special.

౨ৎ lychee with mint 7/10 ($5.80)

a fizzy lychee soda with a hint of mint, this drink was super refreshing and thirst-quenching! it helped to cleanse my palate between bites of savoury food too, and was also not too sweet at the same time.

౨ৎ fresh coconut 7/10 ($6.80)

this coconut was very fresh, and the meat inside was juicy and soft. a very refreshing choice too!

overall, the dishes are a little pricey imo, but i think it’s worth splurging on once in a while as the ingredients used are really fresh, hence quality is definitely assured here! i also heard that the tomato flavour is good too, so maybe i would get that one next time instead of the hot and spicy one.

... Read moreIf you’re planning a visit to Tong Fu Ju, here are some tips and insights to make your dining experience even better. Firstly, reservations are highly recommended, especially if you prefer outdoor seating by the river, which adds a lovely ambiance to your meal. The indoor area is comfortable with good ventilation, so either option works well. Besides the double grilled fish, which comes in seven flavors, don’t miss trying the sambal kang kong. Though it’s a common zichar dish, the balance of spice and savoriness here is just right and complements the main dishes well. For drinks, the lychee with mint was particularly refreshing and helped balance the richness of Sichuan flavors. The fresh coconut is another great choice for a natural, cooling companion to your meal. When it comes to spice levels, if you crave the iconic numbing mala sensation typical of Sichuan cuisine, note that Tong Fu Ju’s hot and spicy option is milder and less oily. The tom yum flavor stood out more for its rich, hearty taste. If you want to explore more flavors, I recommend trying their tomato-flavored fish next time—heard great things about it! Located just a 7-minute walk from Clarke Quay MRT, this restaurant is conveniently accessible for locals and tourists seeking genuine Sichuan flavors in Singapore. Budget-wise, the prices are slightly on the higher side but justified by the freshness and quality of ingredients used. It’s perfect for a special occasion or when you want to splurge on satisfying Sichuan dishes. Overall, Tong Fu Ju offers an elegant Oriental dining experience with a selection that highlights authentic Sichuan cuisine’s depth and variety. Whether it’s a date night or a foodie outing, it’s a place I’d happily recommend to fellow Sichuan food enthusiasts exploring Singapore’s culinary scene.

Finally had the opportunity to dine at the super crowded Sichuan Alley 🔥 during lunch time. Despite the long queues, every dish we ordered exceeded my expectations. The chef has clearly adjusted the flavours to suit local taste buds, while still keeping that bold Sichuan character. Definitely
