When little hands turn to hurting hands...
Aggression in kids with Reactive Attachment Disorder doesn't just look like tantrums.
It looks like siblings hiding in their rooms because they're scared.
It looks like pets that shy away.
It looks like a mom patching holes in the drywall at midnight.
And it's not because this is beyond hope-it's because their brain learned survival, not safety.
When a child believes no can be trusted, they fight before they can be hurt.
But Jesus tells us something different-He says, 'Put your sword back in its place.' (Matthew 26:52) and offers peace instead of fear.
Diagnostic View:
-Rooted in fear and survival instincts.
-Aggression often surfaces when the child feels vulnerable, controlled, or threatened.
-Behavior is about regaining power in relationships they don't trust.
Biblical View:
-Scripture calls aggression what it is: sin (Galatians 5:19-21, "fits of anger").
-But Scripture also offers hope, sin is forgivable, hearts can change (Ezekiel 36:23)
-Aggression is rebellion against peace-but Christ came to reconcile us, even while we were His enemies (Romans 5:10).
Gospel hope for the person with RAD:
Who is God?
God is holy, just and loving-the One who made you for relationship with Him and with others (Psalm 100:3).
Who is Man?
Because of sin, we break things. We hurt people we love. Sometimes we lash out at the ones who care most for us (Romans 3:23).
Who is Jesus?
Jesus took that anger, rebellion, and brokenness to the cross. "The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5).
Response:
Turn from sin and trust in Him. When Jesus saves you, He gives you His Spirit-a Spirit that replaces rage with peace, control with trust, and fear with love (Galatians 5:22-23).
"He who has been forgiven much, loves much." (Luke 7:47)
For the Mom Watching This:
You are not unseen. God sees every slammed door and tear-stained pillow.
"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18)
Your labor is not in vain. The way you're choosing safety and truth-even when it's misunderstood-is a picture of God's steadfast love.
You're not failing-you're in a battlefield. And God promises to be your refuge (Psalm 46:1)
Aggression doesn't write the final story. Jesus does.
